Wifi and Social Media

How do I connect to WiFi?

There are  2 free wireless networks that you can connect to: eduroam and UoE_Guest.

eduroam - This is recommended as the default for academic visitors, providing access to the Internet using their own usernames. More information on the eduroam service can be found at eduroam.org.

UoE_Guest - You will need to provide a name and e-mail address to access this WiFi network and will then be sent an e-mail to confirm your guest registration. Once confirmed you will have access for 24 hours. A pdf with instructions of how to join this network is available here: https://as.exeter.ac.uk/media/level1/academicserviceswebsite/it/documents/networks/wireless/UoE_Guest_Instructions.pdf

Social Media

The use of social media throughout the conference is welcomed, including live tweeting, except when otherwise indicated by presenters

If you are a presenter who does not want all or part of your presentation to be shared in this way, please state this at the start of your presentation and/or where relevant; the use of a “no photo” statement or logo on your slides is also recommended.

TaPRA encourages participants to observe best practices (below), to include the conference hashtag #TaPRA2019, and to employ commonly used hashtags that relate to the content to increase engagement.

We are on twitter: @TaPRA_ and @TaPRA_PG
And on Instagram: @tapra_
Please note that audio and video recording by individuals for personal use and for social media use is allowed only at social events, in the TaPRA PaR Gallery and in public spaces throughout the conference (except with the express permission of all presenters/speakers being recorded).

Social Media Best Practices
  • Treat all conference participants, attendees, and those working for or on behalf of TaPRA and the University of Exeter with respect and consideration, valuing a diversity of views and opinions.
  • Credit and identify presenters by name for ideas or images.
  • Communicate openly and with respect for others, critiquing ideas rather than individuals. Avoid personal attacks directed toward other conference participant or attendee.

Photography

Photography by individuals for personal use and for social media is allowed at the conference – unless the presenter has exercised the option to be excluded.

Permission is understood to be granted with the following exceptions:
  • The presenter has included a “no photo” image or statement on their presentation slides.
  • The presenter, and/or chair of the session on behalf of the presenter, explicitly states to the audience the preference for no photographs. Understanding that attendees may come in and out of the room during sessions, TaPRA recommends that presenters include a “no photo” image or statement on all relevant slides to ensure that attendees are aware of the presenter’s preference.

Attendees are expected to honour the preference of any presenter who has indicated “no photo.” TaPRA will support and enforce this expectation. (Please contact a member of the TaPRA Executive Committee if you are affected by this.)

When a photograph of presenter, a presenter’s slides, or a presenter’s practice-research is shared on social media or elsewhere, the presenter must be identified by name.
Please be respectful and considerate of others and do not use flash, block attendees view of presenters when capturing photos, or otherwise disrupt presentations.

* These social media and photography guidelines are based on those of the American Geophysical Union.
